If your application program uses arrays AND attempts to access an element of that array, either internally or externally, with an index number that is outside the minimum or maximum configured for the array, a memory error will occur. This may be detected as a memory violation causing a kernel fault and a fail-safe action, but it may also go undetected with unpredictable effects.
